For Royal Caribbean International guests, a “perfect day” is no longer limited to CocoCay.
The cruise line will open Perfect Day Mexico, marking the second in its Perfect Day Collection. The company also has a Bahamas private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, which Royal Caribbean International chief marketing officer Kara Wallace said is “the number one highest-rated destination” of the more than 250 ports its cruises visit.
“So it is something that our guests are looking for, seeking out,” she told USA TODAY in an interview. “And we were looking for the next perfect destination to bring a new Perfect Day to, and we found that in Mexico.”
The destination will be located in Mahahual on the Caribbean coast.
“We are very excited that Royal Caribbean has decided to invest in Mahahual, a land of opportunity and hard-working people,” Mara Lezama, governor of the state of Quintana Roo, said in a news release. “Under the framework of the Well Being and Development Accord and the new era of tourism, my administration is looking forward to working very closely with the company to ensure a sustainable destination that brings shared prosperity to the region and that our local communities are part of this historic investment.”
The destination will open in 2027, with a specific date to be announced.
Wallace said itineraries are still in the planning stage but noted that the line sees Perfect Day Mexico as a “hero port” on Western Caribbean cruises. Those include sailings “from certainly Galveston … from the Gulf and throughout Florida, as well.”
The future of cruises:Are mega-ships here to stay?
Perfect Day is “known for thrill and chill and that perfect combination,” Wallace said. Guests visiting the new Mexico location will find that in the form of a water park, beaches and pools where they can chill out and restaurants and bars.
Wallace said the line will share more about those amenities and attractions over the coming months, likely in the spring.
The destination will also come on the heels of the Royal Beach Club Collection’s launch, starting with Royal Beach Club Paradise Island in the Bahamas in 2025. Royal Beach Club Cozumel will follow in 2026.
Whether on land or on its ships, Wallace said the line offers something for every kind of traveler. “And we want to create experiences where no one has to compromise,” she said.
Wallace added that the “Perfect Day” moniker began as a code name for the project. But as they developed it, nothing else captured their ambitions for the guest experience quite so well – both in that destination and more broadly.
”And so that means we’re always on an ongoing journey to make sure that we’re delivering a perfect day.”
